Reflection

I feel many people will respond to this reflection in a negative way, saying that they received no benefits through the course of their time within UNIV 150. To that, I say nonsense. The learning I achieved exceeds beyond the basic writing principles that were discussed day by day (I feel I always had a strong grasp on those aspects of writing.)  To me, what I gained was more spiritual than technical. In UNIV 150, I figured out how to enjoy writing.

When I entered UNIV 150 four months ago, I came in with the mind-set that this class was below me and I didn’t need to be here. I felt this way until we got our first writing assignment. I didn’t wish to make waste of my time or money by going to a class I didn’t need to, so I decided to make the best of it by focusing on developing my tone and voice within my writing.

I became surprised when my words came so naturally to me. I made no great effort to create content, but simply sprawled it out from within. By writing down what I was thinking, I was able to organize, articulate, and adjust my ideas. Writing worked like a mirror, and I was able to look within myself and solidify what kind of person I am.

Since my enrollment within the course, my writing ability has vastly improved. Not only do I enjoy writing, I go out of my way to further pursue the creation of literature. When I write for other classes, I use it as a form of self-improvement rather than a part of curriculum or the recording of knowledge. UNIV 150 has made me not only a better writer, but a better person. I will forever take pride in the words I record, for they truly are the window to my soul.
